In 2008 Patty Sharp, a nurse at NBRHC, lost her close friend to ovarian cancer. Her friend, Shelley Ackroyd, bravel
y fought with everything she had for eighteen months. But at the age of 55, Shelley lost her battle with cancer. She was the mother of three and a loving wife to her husband Alan, who also lost his battle with cancer, three years later.
Just before Shelley passed, Patty promised to shave her head in memory of her friend, upon retirement. On Monday June 8th, Patty will be retiring.
“I welcome the opportunity to honour my friend in this way,” says Patty, who will be collecting donations for NBRHC’s Cancer Care Fund. “I want to help other brave women like Shelley. It is my pleasure to do this for her and for the place I’ve worked for so many years,” she says.
Patty will shave her head on Monday, June 8th at 18:00. You can help her celebrate by donating.
Patty is collecting pledges personally, but you can also support her online athttps://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/north-bay-regional-health-centre-foundation/sharps-fundrazor/.
