Local Community has a MILLION Reasons to Celebrate!

Posted on

Today, over 700 people gathered at the North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) to take part in the 10th annual Our Hospital Walk/Run. Since the inception of Our Hospital Walk/Run, more than $1,000,000 has been raised, and this year was a record breaking year, with over $134,500 raised to help support the purchase of advanced medical equipment and programming at NBRHC.

“It is amazing to see so many familiar faces of those who have supported and participated in this important signature event for years. Funds raised today will support more advanced levels of care for you, your family and your community,” Paul Heinrich, President & CEO, NBRHC told the crowd during the opening ceremonies. “When you support your hospital, your donations stay local and help purchase needed medical equipment so that you have access to the best possible care, close to home,” Heinrich added.

Jean Jamieson shared why she is so passionate about Our Hospital Walk/Run. “Four years ago, my husband Bob and I received the devastating news that he had cancer, which began a life changing journey.  His fight inspired our Century 21 Team,” she shared.  “Bob passed away last year and we are here again today, grateful for the compassionate care he received.  He would be so proud to see us supporting our hospital,” Jamieson added.

Mark Picard, Manager of Central Ambulance Communications Centre (CACC), and captain of the Ghost Whisperers team says these awards help recognize the hard work that goes into the Walk/Run. “Each year our team actively participates in Our Hospital Walk/Run. It is always a great day – running, walking and laughing along with community members and hospital employees. Our department loves to participate in Foundation activities and Walk/Run is the highlight of the year!” Picard said. “Walk/Run is an excellent opportunity to have fun as a group and at the same time raise fundraise for our hospital.”

“The community’s fundraising efforts are focused on supporting the purchase of advanced medical equipment, helping our colleagues, friends and family members have access to the best possible care here in North Bay,” said Tammy Morison, President and CEO of NBRHC Foundation. “I thank all of the sponsors, walkers, runners and volunteers, who made Our Hospital Walk/Run a huge success again this year. Through your support, you are helping to provide advanced levels of care, close to home.
