Our Hospital Walk/Run Raises $107K for Cancer Care Close to Home Campaign

Community Raises $107,000 for Cancer Care, Close to Home Campaign Supporting Urgently Needed Advanced Medical Equipment

The 13^th annual Our Hospital Walk/Run had just over 400 participants raise more than $107,000 on Sunday morning.

Gary Jodouin, Chair, NBRHC Board of Directors, told the crowd during the opening ceremonies. “Proceeds raised from today’s walk/run are being directed toward advanced medical equipment to screen, diagnose and treat patients with cancer. Already, support for the Cancer Care Close to Home campaign has allowed our Health Centre to purchase two new state-of-the-art CT scanners to serve our community; our friends, family and loved ones.”

North Bay resident and community leader Kim Kanmacher shared her reasons for participating in the run. “No one plans on a diagnosis like cancer. No

one ever thinks it’ll happen to them or a loved one – until it does,” says Kanmacher. “I was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2017. The reality is, no one is immune to cancer. Supporting the Cancer Care, Close to Home campaign is important for me, my family and our entire community. If and when there is a diagnosis of cancer in someone’s life, having state-of-the-art equipment in place helps provide patients with the best outcomes,” Kanmacher added.

“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of sponsors and pledgers along with participants and volunteers,” said Tammy Morison, Foundation President and CEO.  “Our Hospital Walk/Run is the community’s largest annual fundraiser for our Health Centre and has an impact on the care available close to home. Special thanks to all who helped make Our Hospital Walk/Run a success again this year.”

Since the inception of Our Hospital Walk/Run in 2006, our community has raised more than $1.3M in support of the North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC).
