The Ontario Cervical Screening Program is a province-wide screening program that provides people with a cervix (women, Two-Spirit people, transmasculine and nonbinary people) with access to comprehensive, coordinated, high-quality cervical screening. The program’s goal is to reduce the risk of developing or dying from cervical cancer by increasing the percentage of eligible people who get screened regularly and who have timely and appropriate follow-up of abnormal results.
Regular cervical screening can detect changes in the cells of the cervix before they cause cervical cancer. Catching these changes early (and treating them, if necessary) can prevent cervical cancer.
The program sends letters to eligible people to invite them to book a cervical exam, inform them of their test results and remind them when it is time to return for screening. Learn more about the screening letters.*
The program also supports family doctors and nurse practitioners so they can provide the best possible cervical screening for their patients.
