Responsive Behaviour Assessment Unit (Oak Lodge)

Oak Lodge

Oak Lodge- Regional Dementia Care Unit – Sudbury Kirkwood Campus – 18 beds

Comprehensive specialized assessment and treatment of older adults with an age-related dementia who are demonstrating responsive behaviours. Admissions often include those whose condition is complicated by behavioural and psychological symptoms, and/or medical comorbidities that exceed the capacity of the community, general hospital, complex continuing care and long-term care system. An interdisciplinary team focus is utilized to address the causes of the responsive behaviours through a holistic approach employing best practices in the use of environmental, behavioural and pharmacological interventions.

Oak Lodge identifies and documents strategies which minimize or eliminate responsive behaviours including recommendations to:

  • Improve the patient’s overall quality of life;
  • Promote patient, family and care partner engagement;
  • Provide learning opportunities for increased community capacity;
  • Successfully transition the patient to the most appropriate community discharge destination
