Patients requiring a broad range of endoscopic procedures are seen in our Endoscopy Clinic. The procedures are performed by gastroenterologists or surgeons with the assistance of a specially trained nurse. A scope (or tube) inserted through the patient’s mouth or rectum will assist the doctor in looking at the bowel, esophagus or stomach to provide a diagnosis, or assist in treatment of a problem.
Sometimes a short recovery period is necessary; patients are recovered and discharged through our Day Surgery department.
You must have a friend or family member with you to take you home after your procedure, as you will require sedation for the procedure.
This is a day clinic and patients can go home after their procedure.
Procedures performed in this clinic:
biopsies may be done during the procedure
- Gastroscopy (to look into your stomach)
- Colonoscopy (to look into your large intestines)
- Esophageal dilatation
- Varices banding

- Removal of polyp
- Tumour tattooing
- Insertion of PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) tubes and ERCP’s (endoscopic retrograde cholangio pancreatography)
