Telemedicine Mental Health Service

Telemedicine in mental health allows individuals across the region to access psychiatric assessment and treatment remotely, from their home community. It helps patients stay in contact with family and services in their home community while staying in a regional inpatient lodge. The Telemedicine Service identifies opportunities and develops strategies to maximize the application of telemedicine across all programs and sites within the Addictions, Mental Health and Seniors’ Services portfolio, ensuring the achievement of telemedicine volumes established by the NELHIN and NBRHC.

Objectives include:

  • Promoting the use of telemedicine services within the internal hospital community
  • Creating linkages and partnerships with external partners and stakeholders
  • Promoting the use of telemedicine as a tool to provide support and consultation to patients in remote areas
  • Ensuring that recovery based treatment objectives are achieved and maintained
  • Fostering innovation and the application of telemedicine that is evidence based and informed by standards and best practice
