RSMHP provides tertiary mental health services in Northeastern Ontario to individuals, families, and community based services using an evidenced based best practices model of care. All services are guided by principles of recovery.
The program offers specialized interventions to those living with complex and refractory mental health problems in order to reduce symptoms alleviate distress, to live meaningful lives and develop the skills and supports needed to choose, obtain, and keep valued role(s) in the community.
RSMHP provides specialized, comprehensive, multidisciplinary assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to adults with severe and persistent mental illness who have not responded to treatment and/or have difficulty maintaining successful community tenure despite exhausting all district level supports and interventions.

Provides tertiary mental health services to individuals within the North East region who are experiencing serious mental illness requiring a longer and more intensive approach to assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Provides care and support to those individuals experiencing a serious mental illness with a focus on maintaining or increasing their ability to care for themselves, wellness planning, skill building, placement, and follow up.
Provides comprehensive specialized assessment and treatment of older adults and/or adults with an age-related dementia, which is complicated by behavioural and psychological symptoms, and/or medical comorbidities that exceed the capacity of the community, general hospital, complex continuing care and long-term care system.
The purpose of the Service is to ensure that individuals referred for regional mental health tertiary services receive access to the most appropriate services or inpatient care for their needs in a timely manner.
