Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic provides mental health assessments and treatment recommendations for children and adolescent aged six to 16 years. The clinic supports both local and regional clients who are experiencing mental health concerns, but are not in crisis or at immediate risk.

Appointments are available in person at 50 College Drive in North Bay for local clients, or virtually for those living outside the area.

Services offered include:

  • A complete psychiatric assessment and consultation with a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to better understand what is contributing to psychological symptoms.
  • Development of a treatment plan and recommendations, which may include medication or psychotherapy.
  • Support connecting to community services or follow-up with the Health Centre’s Outpatient Child and Adolescent team.

Referral

Services are available to individuals who meet eligibility requirements and have been referred by a health care provider with an OHIP billing number (e.g., family physicians, nurse practitioners, emergency department physicians, pediatricians).

To refer a patient to the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic, complete Child and Adolescent Psychiatry referral form (RHC 3486).

 

Urgent Consult Clinic (UCC)

The Urgent Consult Clinic (UCC) see children and adolescents that are referred through the Emergency Department when they are presenting with suicidal/homicidal ideation, have made threats of violence, unsafe or challenging behaviour due to drugs or psychosis, or other urgent mental health concerns that require an immediate risk assessment.

Services offered include:

  • An expedited risk assessment and consultation with a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.
  • Rapid access to psychiatric services by trained compassionate staff.
  • A diagnosis and interventions to help with current crisis.
  • Support for families and referral to community resources.

Referral

Referral is only available through Emergency Department at the Health Centre, after the patient has been assessed by the CAP crisis team.

 

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Clinic

The Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Clinic supports children aged six to 13 with suspected, uncomplicated ADHD, or who have already been diagnoses and may need help improving/adjusting their treatment.

Services offered include:

  • An assessment for children with possible, uncomplicated ADHD.
  • Support for managing symptoms and improving treatment for children diagnosed with ADHD through a psychoeducational assessment.
  • Connecting families with therapy options inside or outside the hospital.

Referral

Services are available to individuals who meet eligibility requirements and have been referred by a primary care providers with an OHIP billing number (e.g., family physicians, nurse practitioners).

To refer a patient to the ADHD Clinic, complete Child and Adolescent Psychiatry referral form (RHC 3486).

 

Eating Disorder Clinic

The Health Centre’s Eating Disorders Program is an outpatient, specialized community-based service located within the Nipissing district. We offer support to children, adolescents and adults with feeding/eating disorders.

Gender Diversity Clinic

The NBRHC Gender Diversity Clinic offers outpatient psychiatric consultation and support to patients of all ages in Northeastern Ontario who are questioning or have come to understand that their gender identity differs from the one that was assigned to them at birth.

Psychotherapy Services

Our psychotherapy services are available for children and adolescents who are already receiving care through our Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) services—either as an inpatient or outpatient.

Services offered include:

  • Support and training for parents to help manage emotional and behavioural challenges in their children, including support for parents of children with cognitive difficulties.
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy for Adolescents (DBT-A) group therapy for youth to help manage strong emotions and behaviours—a specialized group is also available for gender-diverse youth.
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help children and adolescents manage anxiety, depression, and other challenges using tools like Exposure Response Prevention (ERP).

Referral

These services are available by referral only through our CAP team. If your child is receiving care with us, your care team will discuss if these services are a good fit.
