Gender Diversity Clinic

The NBRHC Gender Diversity Clinic offers outpatient gender-affirming psychiatric & primary care for patients of all ages in northeastern Ontario who are questioning or have come to understand that their gender identity differs from the one that was assigned to them at birth.

For patients presenting with gender-related concerns, we explore issues related to gender identity and expression as well as transition goals, provide diagnostic assessments of gender dysphoria, and offer gender-affirming care recommendations tailored to the patient’s individual concerns and developmental age.

This may include resources for ongoing gender identity exploration and assistance with social transitions. For children and adolescents, it may involve exploration and recommendations regarding family dynamics and neurodiversity. For others, it may also include recommendations for gender-affirming hormone therapy and assistance with surgery funding and referrals for those seeking transition-related surgeries. We also provide gender-affirming hormone therapy to eligible individuals who do not have access to a primary care provider offering this care.

The NBRHC Gender Diversity Clinic also offer psychiatric consultation and care for gender diverse individuals who have other mental health concerns unrelated to their gender dysphoria.

How can I become a patient at the clinic?

Speak with a health care provider (physician or nurse practitioner) and ask them to complete the Regional Mental Health Central Referral Form RHC 2209.
